Merkur Spielbanken Magdeburg casino is set to reopen in the coming days after the coronavirus pandemic forced its closure. The Saxony-Anhalt based casino is the first casino to reopen in the country after a nationwide lockdown.

The casino passed the comprehensive and extensive safety test spanning weeks. The greenlight from the health department, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, means the casino is set to open sooner rather than later.

“We are very pleased that our application has been approved and can hardly wait to be able to receive guests again at the Magdeburg casino after almost seven months of lockdown. We are very grateful for the good cooperation. This enables us to reopen at such short notice,” said Knuth Achilles, director of Merkur Spielbanken Sachsen-Anhalt.

The casino had to update its hygiene and safety procedure in order to meet with the health and safety guidelines. Its current safety and hygiene status means the casino is well equipped to provide maximum security to customers and staff.

“The protection of our employees and our guests is our top priority. The expanded concept is intended to help ensure that everyone involved can feel safe with us,” Mr. Achilles added:

However, the reopening is only slated for four weeks, and the casino is set to run on trial mode, with the hope of reopening fully in the coming months. The casino will track all persons who visiting its premises. In addition, the casino is expected, to text visitors as well. If there 100 infected persons for each 100,000 inhabitants on five consecutive days in the four weeks trial period, the casino will be closed.
